What An Arizona Confidential Intermediary can’t do.

Published by AZAA on

First, we prefer not to discuss why an Arizona Confidential Intermediary can’t assist people. That’s not exactly customer-friendly!

But, we aim to be as honest and upfront as possible. However, we must follow laws and uphold rules

Some common requests we receive, but an Arizona Confidential Intermediary cannot accommodate, include:

  • We can only view the records we review; we cannot provide copies or keep them. No copies, no photos, nothing.
  • We will never provide someone’s name or contact information without permission.
  • We do not confirm DNA results. By the way, DNA does not lie! If you have a match claiming to be your father, they are indeed your father.
  • We do not search for anyone under the age of 21. We will happily set a reminder to reach out when the person turns 21!

What we can do:

  • If you were involved in an adoption in the state of Arizona, AZ Adoption Answers (AZAA) will locate and reconnect you with other members of the adoption experience.

Who we can search for:

  • An adoptee who is at least 18 years old and born in Arizona.
  • Either of the birth parents of an adoptee who was born in Arizona.
  • The adoptive parents of an adoptee who is at least 18 years old, or, if the adoptive parents are deceased, the adoptee’s guardian.
  • If the birth parents of an adoptee are deceased, the parents of the birth parent.
  • If an adoptee is deceased, the adoptee’s spouse if the spouse is the legal parent or guardian of any child of the adoptee.
  • If an adoptee is deceased, any child of the adoptee who is at least 18 years old.
  • A biological sibling of an adoptee if the sibling is at least 18 years old.

Even though someone who is at least 18 years old may initiate a search, Confidential Intermediaries (CIs) may not search for anyone under the age of 21. (Refer to AZ Courts FAQ for more information!)
